All the Information about Hotel Duomo

The history of Hotel Duomo goes back to 80 years ago. Born as “ Hotel il Cupolone”, it has had many transformations till its’ full restoration in 2006 with new furnishings and updated comforts.
Today the hotel has a family-run management and is managed by Paolo, his son Federico and wife Vanessa, together with four receptionists, Sonia, Francesca, Luca and Dorian.

The HOTEL DUOMO FIRENZE is part of a 14th century building, which was residence to the Gondi family, from where the palace facing the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore takes its’ name from.

The hotel extends on three floors total, with the reception being situated on the 4th floor and reachable by elevator from the ground floor. Other than the 4th floor, our rooms are situated on the 3d and on the 5th floor, reached by just 19 internal stairs but don’t worry, our staff is available to help with your bags in case of need on request.

The hotel has 24 rooms total with single rooms facing the rooftops of the city, 1 single room with private balcony and a breathtaking view of the Dome and Cathedral, double rooms with view on the inner court of the palace, double rooms with view of the Cathedral, double rooms with private balcony and amazing view on the Dome and Cathedral and 2 triple rooms with view on the Cathedral.

Someone might encounter difficulties finding us, despite our particular position in the famous Piazza del Duomo just 800 meters from the central railway station of Santa Maria Novella ( we highly advise our guests to have a look at our position on a map before reaching us, link to the map ).

We have been asked many times why we don’t have the reception situated on the ground floor of the building and the answer is that this is the “price” to be paid for being situated close to the Cathedral in Piazza del Duomo on a 1500s historical Florentine Palace protected by the Fine Arts, therefore untouchable.

You can reach the reception with our “antique” elevator ( don’t worry though, it’s safety is modern). It was built in 1931, one of the first elevators of the city of Florence. We could have replaced it with a modern, all steel and glass elevator, loosing therefore its’ charm that is appreciated by so many guests. Going up and down with our elevator is like going for a ride on a horse carriage through the antique roads of Florence.

The hotel is completely non-smoking, but for our smoker guests we provide our panoramic terrace where it is possible to smoke admiring the views of the Dome and the Cathedral.

We are sorry but, though we love nature and animals, for safety reasons it is not possible to host animals in the hotel. However there might be special case exceptions, which is why we kindly ask you to contact us in advance in case you have a pet with you.

All rooms and common areas, like the reception and breakfast hall, are all “hot spots” with free high speed Wi-Fi access.

Our very rich continental buffet breakfast is served from 7:00 up to 10:00, where you will be assisted by Erica, Egi and Celina, link to breakfast . The hotel offers to our guests for free, in our 24 hours available bar, American coffee (either to drink at the bar or to take away), biscuits and tea, other than a kettle to heat up water and a plain/sparkling water machine. The rooms are all equipped with a mini bar which is loaded with a selection of drinks and water for free.

Our staff is at your complete disposal all the time, 24/7, for all services you might request and to give you info on what to see and visit in Florence.

Our receptionists are always at your disposal and can also assist you in the following:

• Museum Reservations (Uffizi and Accademia gallery), to avoid waiting in line, especially in the high season . ATTENTION: reservations in high season especially, to be safe to secure a place, should be requested at least 15/30 days in advance.
• Transfer to/from railway stations and airports ( contact us for rates).
• Tours to visit all Tuscan cities, Cinque Terre or other places of your interest, wine tasting in the farms of the Chianti area, either single or group guided tour booking service to visit Florence

Unfortunately we have no rooms suitable for handicapped persons as the antiquity of the palace does not allow us to make the necessary adjustments.
